Week in review: Elkton, Yoncalla score victories at Coastal Classic meet

Elkton Track and Field

Competing at the Coastal Classic last Thursday, the Elks recorded a string of victories. In the 100 and 200, the Elks went one-two with wins from Margaret Byle in both while Kassie Yeaney took second. Byle also went on to win the 400.

In the field events, Elkton’s Sadie Olson took first in shot put and discus while finishing third in javelin.

Yoncalla/North Douglas Track and Field

Thursday at the Coastal Classic the Eagles also found success. The team got first place finishes from Ian Sprinkle in discus, Bryan Allen in javelin and Dominic Aguilar in long jump. Tyler Davis finished second in both long jump and triple jump.

For the girls, Emalie Sprinkle took first in long jump and triple jump.

Yoncalla/Elkton Softball

In a busy week of games, the Eagles went 0-6. The team lost 20-0 to Oakland on Tuesday, 26-6 on the road against Riddle on Wednesday before a double-header against Lowell the Red Devils score their first wins of the season with 15-11 and 12-9 victories. On Saturday against one-loss Central Linn, Yoncalla fell 32-6 and 16-1.

The team was outscored 121-33 on the week.

Cottage Grove Softball

In a matchup between two teams looking to score their first win of the season, it was Siuslaw getting the best of the Lions 11-1 last Wednesday. At Marist last Thursday the team fell to the Spartans 15-0 and 16-1. At home on Saturday the Lions lost 15-13 and 13-5 to Tillamook.

Elkton/Yoncalla Baseball

In a three-game series against Glide last week, it was the Wildcats finding success and winning each game. The team’s went to extra innings on Tuesday as Glide won at home 3-2 before heading into the weekend.

On Saturday the Wildcats 10-runned the Elks with a 13-1 and 10-0 win. Glide recorded three out-of-the-park home runs in game one after not having hit a home run all season.
