At-large council seat features three

challengers; charter changes also on ballot

The deadline for candidates to file for election to positions in Cottage Grove government came and went last week, offering a complete look at the lineup of those hoping to be elected to office this November.

Candidates had until Tuesday, Aug. 26 to file paperwork to run for mayor or city council, and at the deadline, it became apparent that only one contested position will appear on the ballot this fall.

Mayor Tom Munroe will run unopposed for his second term after being elected to replace six-term mayor Gary Williams in 2012. Ward I Councilor Jake Boone won’t face opposition to reelection for his seat. Nor will Ward III Councilor Garland Burback. Meanwhile, three candidates — Bob Ehler, Mike Fleck and Darby Valley — will vie for the at-large seat to be vacated by Victoria Doyle, who has stated she will not seek reelection. The terms of at-large Councilor Heather Murphy, Ward II Councilor Jeff Gowing and Ward IV Councilor Kate Price expire at the end of 2016.
