Blanche Denker-Scott, 97, of Cottage Grove passed away July 21, 2014.
She was born Jan. 22, 1917 in Kimball, S.D. to Roy and Ruth (Hand) Jared.
She moved to Mitchell, S.D. at a young age and attended schools and graduated from Mitchell High School.
On March 11, 1935, she married Kenneth Denker in Alexandria, S.D. They moved to Cottage Grove in June of 1935. He died in August of 1969. On April 20, 1972, she married Walter “Scotty” Scott.
Blanche and Walter grew dahlias at Mt. View Dahlia Farm, which they owned. Walter died Oct. 23, 1993.
Blanche taught steel guitar for 14 years and played for years in the Musical Belles. The group would perform music in nursing homes and hospitals. For the most part, she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Assembly of God Church (on 10th St.) and the Neighborly Neighbor’s Club.
She is survived by her daughter, Sharon K. Duwell of Walton, seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her two sons, Kirk and Russell.
Visitation was held July 23 at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel. A funeral service was held July 24 at Living Faith Assembly in Cottage Grove with burial following at Fir Grove Cemetery. Arrangements under the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel, Cottage Grove.
