Longtime Cottage Grove resident Steve Jones was arguably the best pool player in town. Skilled in snooker, billiards and caroms, Steve made his living for years on his winnings from local pool tournaments. In his characteristic gray beard and ponytail, plaid shirt and suspenders, Steve was an avid bicyclist, self-taught botanist/mycologist, and voracious reader of fine fiction.
Born and raised in Pensacola, FL and trained in electronics, Steve arrived in Cottage Grove in 1970 and stayed. He passed away peacefully here on May 11, 2014. He was preceded in death by his mother in Pensacola and his sister Nancy in Long Beach, and had no immediate family. Friends remember him as quiet, bemused, decent to the core and deeply generous. Remembrances may be made to the Brain Injury Association of Oregon. For the complete article see the 06-04-2014 issue.
