Street trees or no street trees? That seems to be the underlying question that separates two alternative designs for the future of Main Street in Cottage Grove.

Last year, the City of Cottage Groveís Planning Department enlisted the help of consultant David Evans and Associates to begin drafting a plan for a refurbished Main Street, work that they hope can be funded through a federal Transportation and Growth Management grant.

The City listed such goals as removing the crown on Main Streetís street surface, supplying more outdoor utilities and improving access to the area for those with disabilities as benchmarks for the Main Street Refinement Plan, and on Dec. 4, 2013, an open house was held to gauge the importance the public places on Main Streetís various aspects and its possibilities for the future.
