Boys split close ones down the stretch

Mason Mueller (left) and Garrison King (right) will be counted on even more to lead the Lions' inside attack.

Two games on the road can be problematic for any team, especially against two pretty evenly-matched opponents. The Cottage Grove Lions found that to be true but still came away with one win, and they came very close to the second.

Tuesday at Cascade, in Turner, Ore., the Lions trailed 43-41 after three quarters. Fueled by the front three of seniors Mason Mueller, Garrison King and John Schatzau, the Grovers finished strongly against the Cougars to snatch away a 55-51 victory. King made two free throws with seven seconds to play to preserve the Lions’ eighth win of the season against two losses.

Mueller scored 15 points, and Schatzau and King added 14 each to account for 43 of Cottage’s Grove’s 55 points.
