Howard Duane Inman, 88, of Cottage Grove passed away Oct. 16, 2013, of age related causes. He was born Dec. 29, 1924, in Stevenson, Wash. to Ross and Vera (Moon) Inman. Howard graduated from Ryderwood High School in Ryderwood, Wash. in 1943. He was in the Army Air Corps as a radio operator in a C46. He flew over the Himalaya Mountains from India to China in WW II about 42 times.
Howard worked for Long Bell and later International Paper Co. as Pay Master and Safety Engineer for 44 years. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and hunter with a huge collection of antlers. In his retirement years he worked as a senior’s advocate preparing tax forms at senior centers. A special thing for the family was an annual vacation to go hunting in Eastern Oregon. His favorite hunting partner was Don Fegles, his brother-in-law. He belonged to the Hump Pilots Association, Odd Fellows Lodge and was the Finance Officer for United Methodist Church for several years. He married Bette Fegles in Ryderwood, Wash., and they were married for 67 years. He is survived by his wife Bette Inman of Cottage Grove, son Duane and wife Cindy Inman of Portland, daughter Lonnie and husband Jon Howell of Lorane, son James “Jim” and wife Mary Inman of Forrest, Va.,brother Lloyd and wife Marla Inman of Kelso, Wash., six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
