Commission to explore animal regulations

Ongoing enforcement issues and a burgeoning interest in animal husbandry have the City of Cottage Grove’s Planning Commission exploring changes in the codes that govern what and how many animals can be legally kept within the city limits.

City Planner Amanda Ferguson said the current code governing animal husbandry in Cottage Grove, which was last explored when the City updated its development code in 2008, is “not particularly clear or well-written.” At its Aug. 21 meeting, the Planning Commission explored updates to the code that would allow for a greater number of animals to be kept on any property and add other specifications for what types of animals may be kept.
