Bessie Marie Gilham, 86, of Cottage Grove died Aug. 16, 2013 of age related causes.
She was born Nov. 4, 1926 in Randolph, NB to Jacob and Mary (Barrett) Raisor.
She attended high school through 11th grade. Bessie was a homemaker and had miscellaneous odd jobs.
On July 26, 1947 in Cottage Grove, she and Ralph L. Gilham were married.
Bessie and Ralph were excellent archers and won the Oregon State Man and Wife Archery Championship. She enjoyed genealogy, crossword and jigsaw puzzles, scrabble, cooking and entertaining and was well known for her baking, pitching horseshoes and keeping up with all family birthdays by sending cards. She loved playing Keno and Mega Bucks.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet Martindale and Vera Julian, both of Springfield, two sons, Bill Gilham and wife, Michelle, of Cottage Grove and David Gilham of Gresham, two sisters, Ruth Brown of La Grande, and Bonnie Pynch of Roseburg, eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 16, 1996, and by a daughter, Carol Schwieger.
A memorial is planned for Saturday, Sept. 7 at noon at the London Grange. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2350 Oakmont Way, Eugene, OR 97401.
