Gaylyn Niles 1959-2013

Posted: Monday, Aug 26th, 2013

Gaylyn Niles, 54, of Cottage Grove died Aug. 10, 2013 from ovarian cancer.

She was born July 23, 1959 in Rexburg, Idaho to Don L. and Pat (Blackman) Tanner.

Gaylyn graduated from Blackfoot High School in Blackfoot, Idaho and attended business college for a time.

She worked as a legal secretary and then owned Gaylyn’s Pilot Service.

She married Ed Whitworth in Idaho. They divorced and she later married Michael Niles on April 15, 1989 in Salem, Oregon.

As a member of the Cottage Grove Christian congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses, her main interest was in teaching others about the wonderful hope that the Bible foretells in Jehovah God’s coming new system, soon to be at hand. She served in the full time preaching activity in Springfield and in Cottage Grove for nine years until she became ill.

In her leisure time, she loved to fish and travel, seeing some of the sights of Europe, Egypt, the Caribbean, as well as Alaska. She loved the outdoors and wildlife, having many pets around her at home.

Gaylyn always had a very loving heart and spirit, always thinking of how she could help others. She always had a smile on her face making others feel welcome and at ease and made friends easily. Her love for others was one of her greatest attributes.

She had two loving children: Jerahlyn Whitworth, now working at Yellowstone National Park, and Jeremy Whitworth, working at High Desert Harley Meridian. Gaylyn thoroughly loved spending time with her grandchildren and taking pictures and talking with them.

She will be greatly missed by all. Her smile will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

She is survived by her husband, Michael Niles of Cottage Grove, daughter, Jerahlyn Whitworth of Pocatello, Idaho, son, Jeremy Christopher Whitworth of Meridian, Idaho, brother, Michael Tanner of Salem, Oregon, sister, Mrs. David “Tarri” Leonardson of Dubois, Idaho, and two grandsons, Ashton Whitworth and Treuric.

A memorial will be held Saturday, Aug. 24, at 3 p.m. at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2450 S. 6th St., in Cottage Grove.

Arrangements under the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel, Cottage Grove.
