A Monday-morning meeting between inspectors and officials with the Oregon Department of Transportation has pinpointed the start of an approximate one-month closure of the intersection of Highway 99 and Main Street in downtown Cottage Grove.
Dan Latham of ODOT Public Affairs confirmed that the closure will begin early on Tuesday morning, May 28.
According to a press release, the closed area of Highway 99 will extend one block from Gibbs Avenue to Whiteaker Avenue for about two weeks, then from Whiteaker to East Main Street for another two weeks. The Gibbs and East Main intersections will remain open. (A map of the area slated for closure and the suggested detour is printed at right.)
Latham said signs will be posted regarding the detour. Local traffic can use East Main Street, River Road and Woodson Place to travel around the construction zone. Trucks are advised to drive the entire 2.3-mile length of River Road or use Woodson Place and the Cottage Grove Connector to reach Interstate 5.
ODOT cautioned that motorists should watch for traffic control changes at the Highway 99 and East Main Street intersection. Motorists are asked to slow down and drive with caution around the construction zone and the detour route.
Access to all local businesses will be maintained during construction, ODOT stressed. For the complete article see the 05-22-2013 issue.
