A 'sweet home' series

After losing a wild game to Junction City (13-8) on Monday, April 29, the Lions had the unique opportunity of hosting Sweet Home for games on Wednesday and Friday, both at the friendly confines of Kelly Field. The Huskies were originally scheduled to come to Cottage Grove a few weeks ago, but the game was moved to Sweet Home, where the weather was more inviting that particular day. So, under sunny skies and warm temperatures, the Lions made the most of playing at home.

Wednesday the CG boys broke a seven-game losing streak with a 6-4 win over the Huskies. Junior Bodey Allen scored twice and rapped a single for Cottage Grove, and freshman Austin Gordon doubled and scored to spark the win.

Sophomore Zach Thomason pitched the complete-game victory, even after being struck in the thigh by a line drive in the seventh inning. Cottage Grove led 6-2 going into the seventh, but the Huskies rallied for two runs and had the tying runs on first and third. Thomason got the final Sweet Home batter to fly out to Kwan Thithong in center to preserve the win. It was just the third league win against nine Sky-Em losses for the Lions.
