Murder suspect in custody following Friday stabbing

Posted: Tuesday, Feb 26th, 2013

Willie Lee Beaty

Murder charges await a Cottage Grove man arrested following a stabbing incident at the Frontier Village Mobile Home Park Friday evening.

Police say a 911 call received just before 9:30 p.m. Friday reported a stabbing assault at Space No. 37 in the mobile home park. The 911 caller advised that a suspect named “Willie” had stabbed the victim.

Officers responding to the scene encountered 46-year old Willie Lee Beaty walking on foot nearby. Beaty was detained pending investigation of the incident and would later be arrested and lodged in the Cottage Grove Jail.

On Monday, CGPD Commander Dan White declined to offer details on what Beaty said to the officers who approached him, citing an ongoing investigation of the incident. White only stated that what Beaty had to say was enough to make him a person of interest in the case, adding that Beaty was wearing a hunting-type knife on his belt at the time.

Officers responding to the crime scene encountered Samuel Scooter Hunt, 30, collapsed in the roadway near Space 37. Hunt appeared to be bleeding from a wound to his chest. Officers rendered first aid until South Lane Fire & Rescue personnel arrived to transport him to the Cottage Grove Hospital Emergency Room, where he was pronounced deceased.
