Wrestlers put on a show Saturday at Lincoln and CGHS

Posted: Wednesday, Feb 6th, 2013

Lincoln MIddle School wrestlers who placed in the district tournament were: back row (rom left): Seth Morris, Dylan Miller, Adam Lamb and Beau Crawford. Front row (from left): Andrew Cooper, Martin Giffen, Gage Herbert, Hayden Walker and Anthony Slay.

After a long day of wrestling with 48 schools in Cottage Grove for the annual high school invitational and middle school district tournament, young wrestlers from Cottage Grove acquitted themselves well. Besides the wrestling, just pulling off the ‘three ring circus” took a lot of work by CGHS head coach Bill Thompson, his assistant coaches and many volunteers.

“I guess the exciting thing for me was the way Cottage Grove, in the form of our schools and community and parents, came together and supported wrestling and our kids so much," said Thompson. "That was a real positive thing.”

All corners of Oregon were represented with teams coming from as south as Gold Beach, Klamath Falls and Medford, as east as Madras, as north as Molalla and as west as Siuslaw. Cascade High School was the overall team winner.

For wrestlers on the CGHS team, Thompson was most excited about the younger grapplers. Junior Tyler Lehman was the lone Lion who placed among the 34 high school teams, taking second in the 220-pound division.
