Funds raised to help build 12th house here

Three hundred crab dinners at a price of $20 per dinner added up to another successful fund raiser for Habitat for Humanity. The dining area at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church was packed Saturday night with diners in bids feasting at the fourth annual crab feed.

In addition to the crab legs, cole slaw, beans and cake, Ninkasi of Eugene donated beer and Coca Cola provided the soft drinks.

The event has become so popular that it has required two shifts to meet the demand. The first group of over 120 ate at 5:30 p.m. The second group, totaling 150 was a sellout and came at 6:30. The Carousel House’s Jordan Van Gorder donated the labor and extra food, while the Annie Mae Rhodes Band provided the music entertainment.

All net proceeds from the event will be going to build Habitat for Humanity’s next house project, the twelfth by the Cottage Grove group. The building plans have been completed and the building permits are being processed. The plan is for a single mother to buy the house after it is finished with no money down and no interest payments. The price of the home will be greatly reduced due to many hours of volunteer labor.
