It’s been quite a year for Cottage Grove’s Kate Coy, and by the looks of it, 2013 is shaping up to be just as exciting.
Last spring, the owner of Anytime Fitness, who is also pursuing graduate studies in conflict resolution at the University of Oregon, learned that she had landed a dream internship with the United Nations. Experiences on the international stage over the summer led Coy to explore local governance when she returned to Cottage Grove, and in November, she won a seat on the City Council here by a wide margin.
Now, Coy will get an even more in-depth look at Oregon’s political machinery through another internship, this one with the state legislature, after learning of the opening with little time to spare.
“This came completely out of the blue,” Coy said of the internship. “I learned that there was an opening through my graduate school for a legislative internship, and the application was due in three days.”For the complete article see the 12-26-2012 issue.
