Four games in five days was a challenge that was met with flying colors by the CGHS girls’ basketball team this past week. With their four wins, the Lions improved to 6-1, with their only loss to 5A Churchill.

Last Tuesday evening (Dec. 11) the Lions did not have too much trouble dispatching the North Marion Huskies by a score of 45-28. Junior Kaitlyn Erner with 13 points and Conner Borigo with 11 were the top scorers for the Lions.

The Lions did hold a slim 18-17 lead at halftime, but then the CG girls outscored the Huskies 27-11 in the second half to run away with the win.

In the first game of the Cottage Grove/Junction City tournament, the Lions led by a comfortable margin most of the game but had to hold on to stop a late surge by Ontario. The Grovers prevailed 53-49. The Lions’ balanced scoring was led by Alanna Borrelli’s 14 points, followed by Sylvia Dean with 11. Borigo added 10 and Tasha Cardwell chipped in nine.

Next on Friday night was Elmira.
