It took Lane County jurors less than one hour Thursday afternoon, Dec. 13, to find 34-year old Jeremy Henry of Saginaw guilty of first-degree manslaughter in the death of 40-year old Teresa Grondona. After a night of heavy drinking, Henry’s vehicle collided fatally with Grondona’s near Saginaw at about 3 a.m. on April 8.
There was never a question regarding Henry’s guilt. Henry, a graduate of Siuslaw High School, took the stand on Thursday morning, and through tears and a quivering voice, he not only admitted that he lost control of his Dodge Dakota and collided with Mrs. Grondona’s Ford Focus, he also confessed that he had been drinking heavily the day and night of April 7. He not only consumed a six pack of 16 ounce beers and two hard lemonades, he also went to three bars in Cottage Grove, although he testified that he didn’t remember drinking at the last one.
