Bud bows out, Pilling takes over

After 51 years of coaching swimming, Cottage Grove’s legendary coach Bud Taylor is retiring. Taylor, a 1960 graduate of CGHS, began coaching in Cottage Grove in 1961 through the inspiration of another Cottage Grove athletic legend: Wally Ciochetti.

Although winning and trophies, banners and championships was not Taylor’s motivation for coaching, he is going out in style, having led the underdog Lion boys’ team to the 4A state swimming championship in 2012.

Taylor cited a “lack of energy” as his reason for stepping down.
