A Cottage Grove business owner pleaded guilty to federal charges last week and will await a January sentencing for filing more than 70 false federal excise tax returns to the tune of an $879,959.42 tax loss.
On Wednesday, Oct. 31, William Meyers, who served as Chief Executive Officer of Side Pocket Food Company in Cottage Grove, a distillery that primarily bottles and blends distilled alcoholic spirits, pled guilty in agreement with federal prosecutors, who agreed to waive additional charges against Meyers and not bring new charges against him at the time of his sentencing. Meyers could face five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.
