Verna Nona Warwick 1919-2010

Verna Nona Warwick, 90, of Creswell died Jan. 20, 2010 of age-related causes.

She was born Feb. 15, 1919 in Liberal, Kansas to Robert and Verna (Zimmerman) Birchell.

On April 26, 1947 in Las Vegas, Nev., she married Thomas Allen Warwick.

In her younger years, Verna was proud to be known as a “Rosie the Riveter” for North America Aviation. For 60-plus years, she worked as a sheet metal worker and was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union. 

Verna lived in Redding, Sun Valley and Lynwood, California and Victor, Colorado. The last eight years she lived in Creswell to be with her daughters, Nona and Marjorie.

Verna was a dedicated homemaker; she loved her large extended family, her friends and her dog, Buddy. She also loved to travel and was always ready to go on any adventure. Most recently she went to Hawaii. She was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and will be missed by all.

She is survived by two daughters, Nona Applegate of Creswell and Marjorie Stewart and husband, Bill, of Oregon, a sister, Vida Paul of Santa Clarita, Calif., three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas Warwick, on June 9, 2002, by a son-in-law, Thomas Applegate in 2009, five sisters and three brothers.

No service is planned.

Memorial contributions may be made to Meals on Wheels or to your local Humane Society.
