Robert Earl Billups, 72, of Cottage Grove died Jan. 26, 2010 from heart failure.

He was born Dec. 27, 1937 in Monmouth, Ill. to J. Wayne and Noverne (Harvey) Billups.

Bob received a masters degree in education from Cal Poly, Pomona in 1965, and a masters degree in mathematics from Claremont Graduate School in 1972.

On Jan. 19, 1968 in Monrovia, Calif., he married Ann McCue.

Bob was an instructor at Citrus Community College for 33 years teaching math and computer science and was dean of the math-science department in his final years. He taught mathematics application classes at the Jet Propulsion Lab part-time for 10 years. In addition, he was a member of the Marine Reserves.

Before moving to Cottage Grove, Bob was a 30-year resident of Glendora, Calif.

He enjoyed off road Jeeping, dog lure coursing, tinkering and inventing mechanical equipment. He was a member of the Drifters Jeep Club, National Council of Teacher’s of Mathematics, CTA, NEA, NRA, BLM Off-Road Advisory Council and was a co-founder of the Viking Car Club in Pasadena, Calif. and a member of Cal 4 Wheel.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Billups, two sons, Michael Billups and wife, Amy, of Winchester, Calif. and James Billups and wife, Renee Isley, of Dorena, two sisters, Norma Greene and husband, Gary, of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif. and Etta Marshall and husband, Gary, of Henderson, Nev. and one grandson.

He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Richard Billups.

A service will be held at a later date.

The family suggests memorial contributions be sent to the American Red Cross Haiti Relief Fund.
