William “Alan” Huffman, 75, of Cottage Grove died Jan. 26, 2010 from complications from heart surgery.

He was born Dec. 18, 1934 in Grand Junction, Col. to Carmen and Ramona (Reed) Huffman.

Alan graduated from Cottage Grove High School.

On Aug. 20, 1955, he married Mary Laverne Thweatt.

He served in the National Guard in Cottage Grove for four years. For 37 years, he worked for Bohemia Lumber in the woods division and retired from there in 1992.

Alan lived his life to the fullest - he flew airplanes, raced motorcycles and spent many hours restoring cars in his shop. He was a member of the Elks and McKenzie A’s and won many awards for his classic cars.

He is survived by his wife, Laverne Huffman, a son, Terry Huffman and wife, Cheri, of Hillsboro, two daughters, Susan Whetham and husband, JD, of Cottage Grove and Shari Kimery and husband, Joe, of Cottage Grove, a brother, Raymond Huffman of Phoenix, Ariz., seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Huffman, in 1978.

A funeral was held Jan. 30 at Smith Lund Mills Funeral Chapel with burial following at Fir Grove Cemetery in Cottage Grove.
