Cottage Grove Police say a Cottage Grove woman who had been unaccounted for since Saturday was found atop Mt. David late this morning.
Corporal Conrad Gagner said Sharon Ruth Bates, 52, was weak and dehydrated but otherwise unhurt when he and Detective Carlos Jones scaled the mountain and discovered Bates in the crater of an old well at about 11 a.m. Thursday. Gagner said a tip from Bates' sister indicating that she liked to climb the hill — a popular hike and hangout despite being located on private property — led to a walk to the summit to search for Bates, who was quickly located. She had been in the crater, gradually growing weaker, for almost six days.
Gagner said he is relieved to have found Bates alive, adding that it wasn't the outcome he would necessarily have expected. For the complete article see the 02-19-2014 issue.
