The main focus of the track squads at Cottage Grove High School is preparing for the district meet at home in three weeks. However, when competing in triangular meets such as the one last Thursday at Elmira against the Falcons and Junction City, a team win is always a welcome result.
This time the usual scenario was reversed. The usually strong girls’ team, that beat 5A teams at the Springfield Invitational, came up short to Elmira, while the Lion boys beat both their foes from the north.
Of the Lions’ 88 points, seniors Conner Richardson and Jordan Yoss accounted for four wins, Richardson in the 200 (PR of 23.45) and 400, and Yoss in the long jump (PR of 19’8.5”) and triple jump. Senior Gaige Macomber won the 100, freshman DeMario Mootz was first in the 1500 (PR of 4:35.99) and senior Jeff Phemister won the shot put.For the complete article see the 04-24-2013 issue.
