Neither the CGHS girls or boys’ teams were at full strength for the opening meet, but there were some encouraging results turned in by both teams.

The Lion girls did well in the relays, jumps and weights in accumulating 70 points to beat 5A schools Marist (52 points) and Crescent Valley (42). The CG girls won eight of 17 events to outdistance the Spartans and Raiders.

First place finishers for the Lions were: senior Tricia Ingraham in the shot put (36-9.5) and discus (105-9), junior Destiny Dawson in the javelin (90-9), the triple jump (28-2.25) and long jump (14-3.75), senior Katy Bass in the high jump (4-10), freshman Breanna Wright in the 800 (2:28.34) and both the 4 x 100 and 4 x 200 relay teams with Chelsea Bottorff, Kristine Dunn, Josi Sisco and Ahsha Mootz.

In terms of early-season Sky-Em rankings, the Lion girls rate this way:

Ingraham is No. 1 in the league in the shot put and discus, while junior teammate Sylvia Dean is second in the discus and third in the shot.
