Presley earns state A.D. honor

Posted: Wednesday, Mar 27th, 2013

In the words of CGHS principal Kay Graham, Dave Presley's A.D. position is "a very difficult and often thankless job. It involves very long hours, lots of travel, and a delicate balance between athletes, parents and coaches."

Last Thursday, Dave Presley, who has been Cottage Grove High School’s Athletic Director for the past 13 years, was informed he had been chosen the Oregon’s 4A Athletic Director of the Year. Presley will receive his award in the middle of April at the state athletic director’s conference.

Craig Rothenberger, the athletic director at Junction City, sent an email to the rest of the Sky-Em directors without Presley knowing about it, recommending Presley for the honor. The OSAA received the nomination and chose Presley over all the other 4A candidates.

“I think Dave’s one of the most conscientious people in the profession,” said Elmira A.D. Rick Royster. “The biggest thing I can say personally for my experience with Dave, is anytime there’s been an issue where there’s been a hardship for us, like maybe we couldn’t make a game that we had scheduled or we had to change a date or something, he’s always worked for the greater good of the kids. I think that’s his single best quality, if you’re looking for a reason he stuck out in people’s minds.”
