Lions' inside game downs the Falcons

Posted: Wednesday, Feb 6th, 2013

Senior Dani Sisco hit a big three at the end of the second quarter in the Lions' win over Elmira on Friday.

The Cottage Grove girls’ varsity basketball team played just one game last week, but it was a big one. The Lions traveled to Elmira to take on the Falcons with both teams in second place in the Sky-Em with 3-2 records. The Falcons appeared to have a big advantage, not only because they were at home, but also since they had beaten the Lions pretty convincingly at Cottage Grove a few weeks ago.

“We came in determined to win, and we did not go in with a cocky attitude,” said Conner Borigo, who paced the Lions with 20 points and 17 rebounds.

Borigo is one of the Lions’ in the three post-player rotation, along with Sylvia Dean and Tasha Cardwell. All told, the three posts combined for 32 out of the Lions’ 49 points.

Borigo got the Lions off to a great start with eight points in the first quarter. The CG girls led 12-8, and they added to the lead as Borigo scored six more in the second. Dani Sisco’s big three-pointer at the end of the half put the Lions ahead 25-20.

“They tried to double-team us in the second quarter, but than we had our other post open, so we had a lot of double post game today,” said CGHS head coach Kerry Clawson.
