I heard that last week’s “Pet Peeves” column hurt the feelings of some students and/or athletes at Cottage Grove High.
I also hear from people who totally agree with my points.
First of all, none of my comments were intended to hurt any of the coaches or athletes at CGHS. I root for the teams, feel their pain when they are injured or lose, and have enjoyed my relationships with the administration, coaches and players. They have treated me well, and I consider them to be class acts.
Although most of my peeves did involve high school sports, some didn’t. Also, my criticisms could be applied to many other programs. I singled out Cottage Grove, but the same things that I wrote about also happen at some other schools and sporting events.
The 10 things I wrote about do irritate me, and I would like to see changes made. Why? For the benefit of the athletes and fans. I maintain that if the changes were made, both athletes and fans would have a more positive experience at sporting events. I ask those who were hurt to regard my "peeves" as suggestions for fine-tuning.
