Richards: A three-year Civil War vet

Which Cottage Grove Lion football player earned the highest honors as a college football player and also started in three Civil War games? Was it Charlie Olds or Butch Wicks for Oregon State, or maybe Brent Haberly for the Ducks?

Wrong on all accounts. The correct answer is 1961 CGHS graduate Mark Richards.

Richards was a good high school football player and track athlete for the Lions, but he did not receive any scholarship offers from any major colleges. He decided to walk-on to Oregon and give it a try.
