Robert H. Conner, 73, of Curtin passed away May 30, 2014 from sarcoma cancer.
He was born June 30, 1940 in Cottage Grove to Robert and Dorthye (Harris) Conner.
Robert graduated from the last graduating class of Lorane High School in 1958, received an Associate of Applied Science degree from Oregon Technical Institute as a gunsmithing technician and attended Lane Community College to get certified as a manufacturing technician.
He served in the U.S. Army as a sharpshooter and as an armsman in the 22nd Artillery Division in Germany.
Robert worked as a millwright, retiring from Weyerhaeuser Lumber Co. He also ran the machine shop at Northwest Hardwood Mill.
Robert lived to build things and take them apart to see how they were made and manufactured. He fabricated things in his gunsmithing machine shop. If he needed it, he built it. He loved reading about machining, motorcycles, steam power and backwoods living and history. He enjoyed back road motorcycle traveling.
Survivors include two sisters, Judy Bryant of Ireland and Suzanne Kloehn and husband, JR, of Veneta, and two brothers, Ramon Conner and wife, Earlene, of Veneta and Richard Conner of Veneta.
