James Otto Altstatt, 90, of Dorena, died March 28, 2013 from age related causes.
He was born Aug. 25, 1922 in Hoyt Villa, Okla. to John and Beuhla (Simmons) Altstatt.
Otto graduated from high school in National City, Calif. and attended some college. He served in the U.S. Air Force (Army Air Corps) during World War II.
On June 6, 1959 in San Diego, Calif., he and Florence Bagnau were married.
Mr. Altstatt worked as a truck driver/mechanic for 20+ years at Handyman Inc.
He enjoyed hunting, gardening and fishing.
Survivors include his wife, two sons, Lawrence L. Phillips and wife, Gail L., of La Mesa, Calif. and James Phillips and wife, Gail A., of National City, Calif., a daughter, Cheryl Richmond and husband, Kimmen, of Oneida, N.Y., a sister, Velda Ward and husband, Merle, of National City, Calif. a brother, Walter Thomas Altstatt of San Diego, Calif., 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, John Phillips, on July 6, 2002 and by a daughter, Carolyn Barton, on March 3, 2007.
A memorial will be held today, April 3, from 4-9 p.m. at the Altstatt residence.
