Dorothy Wallenius, 85, of Cottage Grove died Nov. 29, 2012 from cancer.
She was born Dec. 10, 1926 in Ironwood, Mich. to Waino and Lizzie (Johnson) Minkin.
On July 20, 1946 in Ironwood, she and Arvo Wallenius were married. He passed away June 5, 2008.
Both she and Arvo grew up in Ironwood. In 1948 they moved to San Leandro, Calif. where they resided for 40 years, finally settling in Cottage Grove in 1984. The also wintered in Yuma, Ariz. for 22 years.
Dorothy worked in the offices of the Chrysler Corporation Parts Depot in San Leandro. She began as a clerk and worked her way up to the head computer operator. She retired in 1981 after 33 years of service.
Dorothy was very active through her church in many community outreach activities that served the greater Cottage Grove area. She loved learning and took many enrichment classes. Some of her favorite activities included travel, handicrafts, dancing, computers and gardening. Most important to Dorothy was her love of family and she especially enjoyed any time the family gathered together.
Survivors include two sons, Arlen Wallenius and wife, Linda, of Prineville, and Bruce Wallenius of San Leandro, three sisters, Melba Hendrickson and husband, Bill, of Cottage Grove, Mae Hendrickson of Gile, Wisc. and Adele Kivi of Escanaba, Mich., two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A memorial will be held Thursday, Dec. 6, at 11:30 a.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cottage Grove. Private inurnment will be at Willamette National Cemetery.
