James Roger Nelson Blue 1959-2012

James Roger Nelson Blue, 53, of Cottage Grove died Oct. 2, 2012 by his own hand.

He was born Feb. 21, 1959 in Cottage Grove to James B. and Opal M. (Land) Nelson.

James graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1977.

After high school Jimmy moved to Hollywood, Calif. and went to work for Paramount Studios there. He worked on numerous TV sitcoms and appeared in a few popular movies in the 1980s. He was an accomplished musician, winning the Louis Armstrong Music Award, and continued to compose and write original music under the stage name of "Jimmy Blue". He worked in the motion picture and music industry for 27 years. He returned to Cottage Grove in 2009.

On May 5, 1991 in Eugene, he and Valerie E.C. Blue. They later divorced.

James enjoyed working on the restoration of his parentsí homestead. He was a member of the Screen Actors Guild and the Laborers International Union of North America.

He is survived by his mother, three sisters, Annie Shepard of Creswell, Robin Masterson of Terrebonne and Dawn Nelson of Nikiski, Alaska.

He was preceded in death by his father on Nov. 13, 1996, and by two brothers, Jon O. Nelson on July 23, 1984 and Mark Nelson on Feb. 1, 1952.

A memorial will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at the United Methodist Church in Cottage Grove.

Arrangements under the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel and Crematorium, Cottage Grove.
