Lincoln to life
The ultimate compliment for an actor is when his audience is so captivated by his performance that they forget he is just acting. Such appeared to be the case on Saturday at the Cottage Grove Community Center when for one hour Steve Holgate became Abraham Lincoln to the 60 people in the Shepherd Room.
Lincoln’s visit was a big part of the kickoff of the Cottage Grove Library exhibit entitled “Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War.” Pete Barrell, Cottage Grove Community Service Director, wrote and received a grant from the American Library Association and the National Endowment for the Humanities to host the exhibit. The Cottage Grove Library is one of just two libraries in Oregon that will be home to the exhibit, which will be on display in the library through July 5. In the library there are also Civil War artifacts loaned by local people as well as the Cottage Grove Museum, though the Lincoln presentation by Holgate was arranged separately by Barrell. For the complete article see the 06-04-2014 issue.
