Over 120 concerned Cottage Grove citizens met last Wednesday evening at the Cottage Grove High School cafeteria for a meeting held as a part of the Vision 2037 Project’s five-year review.

Six years ago, those involved in the initial project came up with 93 initiatives for improving Cottage Grove’s future.

At Wednesday’s meeting, Jim Marcus, the chairman of the project, shared that the Vision Keepers have concluded that 24 initiatives have been completed or are successfully ongoing, 33 are in the process of being completed and 36 have yet to have any action.

“Tonight we are celebrating the good things that have happened, and we’re also trying to generate some new ideas for the future,” Marcus said.

Of those that haven’t had any action, Marcus said some haven’t because no one is interested in the idea, or it’s such a big idea that no real organization has been formed to promote it. One such “big idea” is a new aquatics center. When ideas were discussed on Wednesday, an aquatics center as well as a youth center were again very popular.

The initiatives are organized into four categories:

expanding and integrating community networks; enhancing urban places and spaces; enhancing a small town’s downtown and investing in a diverse and sustainable economy.

In the “expanding and integrating community networks” category, Tim Rochholz spoke about the LCC Dental Clinic. That project was not on the initiative five years ago, but as Marcus explained, “just turned out to be a good thing that happened.”
