Construction to place electrical wiring under and repave the Row River Trail will continue well into May, a spokesperson with the company in charge of construction stated last week.
On Tuesday, April 23, Jeff Peritore of Mowat Construction, which is currently retrofitting Dorena Dam to produce hydroelectric power, stated that the Row River Trail will remain closed from Thornton Road to the Mosby Creek Trailhead until Wednesday, May 22, adding that the path from the Mosby Creek Trailhead to Row River Road will be closed until Friday, May 24. Mowat is currently installing an electric transmission line from the new electric powerhouse at Dorena Dam to the Village Green substation in Cottage Grove. The line will run under the Row River Trail, which will be repaved after the line is installed.
On Monday, Brent Smith of Riverbank Power, the Canadian company that is overseeing the damís retrofit, stated that a delay in the permitting process on the part of the State Historic Preservation Office will lead to the extended closure. Smith said his company had to get permission from the SHPO to continue with construction after it produced the results of an archaeological survey on the affected land. A delay in the process put construction crews about three weeks behind schedule, though Smith said the company has made up one week of its lost time.
