Closures at 99 and Main begin overnight Sunday

Posted: Tuesday, Apr 23rd, 2013

Nighttime construction to replace water lines under the intersection of Highway 99 and Main Street will begin a week later than scheduled, according to the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Dan Latham of ODOT Public Affairs announced that the closures, which were scheduled to begin overnight on Sunday, April 21, will now begin overnight on Sunday, April 28. The delay will allow the project’s contractor to “work out several administrative and staging issues,” according to Latham.

Latham stated that he had received multiple requests via telephone and email for updates on the project to replace the intersection, which will include its realignment, upgrades to aid pedestrian traffic and other improvements. The project is expected to last much of this summer.

“We’re still working on our long-term schedule, but we do have a fairly good idea of what to expect the next two weeks,” Latham wrote Thursday.

“Starting Sunday night, the contractor can begin working on the water main at and north of the East Main Street-Highway 99 intersection. This work is expected to continue five nights a week (Sunday night to Friday morning, 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.) for about 2-3 weeks.

“This will require nighttime single-lane closures on East Main Street and Highway 99. If the contractor needs to close both lanes of Highway 99 (between E. Main and Gibbs) at night, we will set up a detour, and flaggers will direct traffic around the work zone.”
