Teaming up

As the old saying goes, it takes a village to raise a child, and if early developments brought about by national health care reform are any indication, itís going to take a team of committed health care professionals to keep that child healthy throughout his or her life.

The Affordable Care Act, aka Obamacare, was passed into law in 2010, with many of the most sweeping changes mandated by the law set to take effect in 2014. At Cottage Grove Community Hospital and other facilities nationwide, though, new approaches to patient care have already begun to transform the health care landscape, approaches that administrators say will be crucial to providing affordable care to all as mandated by the new law.

In Oregon, more patients have received coverage than would have previously due to changes that bar insurance companies from denying coverage to patients with preexisting conditions. Coverage has also been extended for young people, who are now allowed to retain coverage under their parentsí insurance plans until they reach age 26.
