The Cottage Grove Chamber of Commerce presented its annual awards Friday evening at a banquet notable for an abundance of leis, an appearance by the King and highlights of the best in volunteerism and business excellence the community has to offer.

In addition to introducing and installing its new group of officers, the Chamber presented awards for Junior First Citizen, Teacher and Classified Employee of the Year, Distinguished Service, First Citizen, the President’s Award for Community Excellence and Business of the Year. Master of Ceremonies Amy Callahan provided plenty of pizzazz, and the catering of Café Sheilagh offered a spirited take on the evening’s Hawaiian theme. David “Elvis” Lomond kept the audience laughing between his interpretations of classic Hawaiian and Elvis tunes.

Chamber Greeters Chair Amanda Akers explained that the Chamber had received an outstanding 19 applications for its Junior First Citizen Award. The runner-up, Peter Bayley, charmed the Greeters with his “quick wit and passion for unique volunteerism,” which included setting up websites for service dogs. Bayley received a $1000 scholarship.

Junior First Citizen Anna Cornelius was honored by South Lane Wheels’ Ruth Linoz as someone with the ability to be a “servant leader with a passion to be inclusive.”
