South Lane County Fire & Rescue Chief Dean Creech wanted to think of a more professional comment to describe his feelings following the passage of Local Option Levy 20-205. His first word, though, “Yippee!,” spoke volumes.
The property tax levy, which will fund the fire district for five years at $.47 per $1000 of assessed property value, was approved by voters with 55 percent of votes in Cottage Grove, Creswell and the surrounding 800 miles of the district’s ambulance coverage. The levy was sought to fund operations as the District faced an upcoming end to its store of reserves. The funding will also be used to replace ambulances and other aging equipment.
“We’re excited because we’re reasoning that we’ve started to gain some trust with the public,” Creech said. “We’re pleased and thankful to our supporters, because it’s hard to earn the public’s trust and respect.”
