The Cottage Grove Riding Club has been working hard to coordinate the 62nd annual NPRA rodeo on July 9 and 10 at the Cottage Grove Riding Club grounds on Highway 99.
Both Friday and Saturday night performances include multiple junior events, including mutton bustin, calf riding, steer riding, bull riding and barrel racing. The Cottage Grove Riding Club Youth Drill Team follows these young cowboys and cowgirls starting at 5:30 p.m. The NPRA rodeo starts at 7 p.m. with the Cottage Grove Riding Club Adult Drill Team and a presentation of our nation’s colors delivered by local long-time club members. Then the professional roping and riding begins.
Bunnies, chickens, goats, and pigs are available for the catching at the animal scramble. The Cottage Grove Queen’s court, including Senior Queen Jessica Marshall, Senior Princess Lindy Hartness and Junior Queen Tana Weston will be showing off their riding skills and talents in addition to signing pictures. In the fall, Sr. Queen Jessica will be a junior at Thurston High School. Sr. Princess Lindy graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 2010, and Jr. Queen Tana will be attending her first year at Cottage Grove High School this fall. These young ladies have spent the majority of their summer promoting the rodeo and community all over the state. All three would like to thank the community for their continued support and personally invite you to come and share one of the oldest sports – rodeo.
