A Cottage Grove man pled guilty Wednesday, Jan. 27 in a Lane County courtroom to charges stemming from the beating of another Cottage Grove man last September.

Joel Anthony Ware, 23, received 70 months’ detainment at the Department of Corrections on an Assault II charge for the beating of 46-year old Jerry Alan Wilson. Ware also received a 30-day concurrent sentence for Robbery III charges and two years of court supervision and forfeited a firearm seized during his arrest.

Detective David Burgin told the Sentinel last September that Wilson met Tina Gayle Kramer, 42, at a local bar. Kramer then brought Wilson back to the apartment she shares with Ware, after which the couple brought Wilson to the bike path behind Crestview Terrace Apartments, where they assaulted him with an axe handle. Wilson was released from the hospital the next day.

Kramer was sentenced to 90 days in prison and 36 months’ probation on a charge of Hindering Prosecution.
